Example of a Portable basketball hoop system… aka Portable Basketball Goals or Portable Basketball Hoops
The foundation of any portable goal is its base (bottom), and most are generally bulky, square-shaped and hollow. The more expensive portable goals have sturdier bases and use thicker plastics and are safer. Next comes the poles. Although some poles rely solely on one main shaft to hold up the hoop and backboard, it is becoming more and more common to find one large pole supported by two (or more) lesser side poles. The poles connect the base to the backboard. The backboard is connected to the rim. The net is put through the loops on the rim. Each of these main parts will be examined in detail with recommendations and tips. You should be looking for certain features of each part when you purchase.

Another name for a Portable Basketball Goal is portable basketball backstop.
When I think of a backstop I think of baseball but it turns out to be just another name used to refer to a Portable basketball Goal.
Before you buy used portable basketball goals make sure you check.
The backboard – no cracks
The Base – no leaks
The pole – still secure
Make sure you tighten all the screws before using.
Portable Basketball Goals can last a decade if treated properly.

A Spalding Portable Basketball System with a 44 inch backboard is great starter system for kids.
With a bigger backboard,48 inches or wider it makes it a lot more difficult to move the hoop from place to place.
Spalding is also a leader, along with Lifetime in the Portable Basketball Goals industry. Most of the hoops you see in the neighborhood will be one of these brands.
They also sell accessories such as basketballs.
Portable Basketball systems come in different shapes and sizes.
My review is about what to avoid when purchasing a Portable Basketball system.
Don’t buy off the main brands. (Lifetime,Spalding, or Huffy)
Don’t buy a fan shaped backboard.
Don’t buy a backboard less than 44 inches.
Don’t buy a Portable Goal that isn’t easy to move up and down and around.
Follow these review guidelines and will be well on your way to a savvy purchase.
The backboard that most people purchases is made of polycarbonate.
Polycarbonate is not as good as a glass backboard but is more affordable. Portable basketball system’s with polycarbonate backboards should last a long time. (10 years)
If you buy a system with a cheaper backboard it would most certainly last that long.
